Metafur and work [Jun. 12th, 2007|03:17 am]
[mood | hopeful]

Still working on metafur. Just recently found the time to get things up and going again. Work has been tough, got promoted to General Manager though :) Hopefully, Metafur will be up and public by the end of July if I get all the bugs worked out.

[mood |accomplished]

Hey :) Sorry to not have written in some time. I was recently promoted at work. This new promotion had required me to move. Well after taking a whole week just to find someplace to live (yeah, not long, I know) I'm here! :P Expect work on metafur to resume just as soon as I get some free time. (The Internet connection here is smokin' :D)

Some things just make it all worthwhile [Jan. 28th, 2007|08:59 pm]

Today I received a thank you note from a regular customer, got asked to go on route with one of my old bosses, and just now I finally understood how a complex software system operated after about a month of prodding. Some days just make up for all the others. :) Oh yes, the recent code base update for metafur is coming along nicely, I'll be committing it as soon as I can tidy up some code style issues :)

work, and then there's work [Jan. 20th, 2007|06:22 pm]

At work we have a change fund... It's kind of a petty cash thing that we get to make change out of. Every day, one person is responsible for it (they have to count it in and out, and have to make up the difference). Recently the lock for the change drawer broke and so my manager replaced it with a common lock. Well, the past two weeks the drawer has been short twenty dollars on my shift and my shift alone. Well, before the change goes from my drawer, to my pocket, to the customer it is counted at least three times. Once, when I remove it from the change drawer. Twice, when I remove the change from the roll. And Third, when I read back each total to the customer aloud. Each and every time I get more change from the operating fund I count the roll back into the drawer. It was never off... which means that I didn't make an error in changing during that time period. However, at the end of the night the drawer is short twenty dollars. This leads back up to the "common key" bit... a little annoying isn't. It isn't the money aspect of it that gets me it's just that I can't trust -- well, at least one -- of my coworkers. Eh, I ended up having to balance the account. However, I spent 45 minutes and found an appropriate lock... something my manager could have done two weeks ago... sigh.

Making Comics [Jan. 15th, 2007|01:13 pm]
[mood | optimistic]

I was going to run some bank errands today, and when I got there I realized it was Martin Luther King, Jr. day (nobody at the bank) o_O . Eh, well I went into work just to hang out (the bank is a 30 minute drive from home and so is work) and hung out (did some paperwork) and my coworker had left "Making Comics" by Scott McCloud there. I picked it up and 2 hours later I found myself done with it. Surprisingly it just read so well. The style was great. I think I'll have to give making "Edit me" a bit more attention -- after metafur, of course.

Life, code, work... [Jan. 12th, 2007|12:59 am]
[Tags|, , ]

Sometimes life just gets in the way of coding. For about the last week I've been working my day job... well, not to say that it takes more time than I'd like but it leaves very little time to work on metafur. Good news though, now that the holiday season is over, I should have much more time to devote to metafur and other development. I've got the user model finished (finally) and the site should have some content soon (hopefully). I'm working on the design, faqs, wiki, and a bunch of other stuff as well. In relation of blogging -- I'll try to keep this updated more often. Well here's to things getting much better and development getting current.

Ah, found out about the beauty of RESTful design (will integrate into MetaFur as I build it). Moving to Ruby on Rails 1.2 release candidate for development. Setup a mirror and file repository for wikifur at files.jaesharp.com. Lot's of stuff :)

Mandatory Introductive Post [Nov. 30th, 2006|06:24 pm]

Hey everyone! :) This is my personal blog. I set it up so that my domain name would go to waste, ha. Otherwise I'll be chatting about my work on metafur.com, ruby, ruby on rails, programming, wikfur, or just life in general. So strap in and enjoy the ride, oh and keep all limbs inside the vehicle, please.
